Chocolate Milk – Not Just for Kids Anymore

Chocolate Milk – Not Just for Kids Anymore

My attention was drawn recently to an article published in the May 2011 issue of Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research.  It basically says that a blind study by the University of Texas at Austin reveals that Chocolate Milk is the best post exercise drink to consume for lean muscle gain and fat loss – better than any other sports drink or protein supplement on the market. I’ve included a link to this story on the University’s website, and I found it compelling because of a) where it was conducted and b) I’ve heard rumors and read about this for …

Last Week of the Farmers Markets…

Depending on where you shop, this is possibly the last week that your area local farmer’s market will be open – as the summer growing season is coming to a close.  Be sure to get out there this weekend (and possibly the next few weekends) and stock up on your winter supply of fresh vegetables and fruits.  I haven’t tried it, but canning is a great way to preserve food but I prefer to freeze most of my fruits (easier ). Halloween Candy…the good, the bad, the ugly

Halloween Candy – The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. So holler at me with some of your questions regarding quick fix meals.  More to come.  I’m creating a new category for menus.

You know when you’re doing cardio in the gym on anyone one of those machines and you see the ”fat burn zone” option…do you reallyknow what that means? We’ve been asked the question a hundred times before and recently came across an article in the IDEA Fitness Journal that seems to seperate the concept from myth really well. So how does your body “burn” fat? That term is used lightly because your body actually uses very little fat when we workout, either aerobically or anerobically.  The energy our bodies use is primarily from Carbohydrates when we lift weights or run on the treadmill.  We tap …
