Group Energy Winter Workout – Forrest Park

We had a great session in Forrest Park this past Sunday.  4 Miles up Leif Erikson trail, just over an hour.  Arlene set the pace early, while Susan and I worked on improving speed by doing interval sets of jogging/walking. Nice work gang!

        Make Your Workout Fun!

Bruce wheelbarrow with Brad Wheel   Today Brad trained Bruce (who by the way is in his 60′s and is in better shape than men 20 years younger!).  It was the ‘wheelbarrow’ technique and it’s an awesome way to hit the core ab muscles, shoulders, arms and chest.   More importantly it was FUN!! Way to go Brad to give Bruce a great workout.   Bruce doing the \”wheelbarrow\”

Chocolate Milk – Not Just for Kids Anymore

My attention was drawn recently to an article published in the May 2011 issue of Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research.  It basically says that a blind study by the University of Texas at Austin reveals that Chocolate Milk is the best post exercise drink to consume for lean muscle gain and fat loss – better than any other sports drink or protein supplement on the market. I’ve included a link to this story on the University’s website, and I found it compelling because of a) where it was conducted and b) I’ve heard rumors and read about this for …

Last Week of the Farmers Markets…

Depending on where you shop, this is possibly the last week that your area local farmer’s market will be open – as the summer growing season is coming to a close.  Be sure to get out there this weekend (and possibly the next few weekends) and stock up on your winter supply of fresh vegetables and fruits.  I haven’t tried it, but canning is a great way to preserve food but I prefer to freeze most of my fruits (easier ). In case you missed it, here’s the segment  from our last newsletter on the subject: Farmers Markets – ‘tis …

The 6 Month challenge is over!

Well, it’s a bitter sweet ending for sure at Energy. The 6 Month Energy Challenge (100 push ups, 100 squats, 50 pull ups per day 5x/week) is finally over – with Brad and Russell coming out on top (they each only missed one week of the workout challenge). I brought up the rear (no innuendo please ) by missing 3 weeks – those 2 weeks in Disneyland killed me, darn you Walt Disney for dis-sallowing my pull ups inside the park! The total pot accumulation was $140 – ($20 if you missed your weekly goal). Now then, time to make …

Vacation can Hurt and Help your Fitness Routine

So I just got back from our big vacation of the summer:  The Disneyland Trip.  It was everything a trip to the Magic Kingdom is supposed to be, filled with countless tourists at the peak of summer, junk food, long lines that resemble a snake more than a straight line,  more emotional swings than a daytime soap opera, and of course miles and miles of walking. The Nutrition Aspect: The walking was the best part if you want exercise but the fast/junk food of course was NOT so good for the health. But hey, it’s vacation right?  And if you …
